people discussing a project

The word ‘expert’ comes from the Latin expertus; known by experience.

Today, it is defined as a person with a high degree of skill in or knowledge of a certain subject.

Our Expert Groups

Our two permanent expert groups aim to bring together experience and opinions from both sides of the treatment system. Those receiving treatment are represented by the Service user expert group. Those working in substance misuse services in Kent contribute to the Service Provider expert group.

These two groups ensure that our Operations team are able to make informed decisions on current issues and the shape of future services.

Service User Expert Group

KDAAT’s Service User Expert Group meets on a monthly basis in Maidstone and is chaired by Sally Duncan, Service User, Carer and Workforce Development Officer.

Membership to the group is by nomination or invitation in order to maintain an even balance of service users from across Kent and the different service providers.

KDAAT staff are present and consult the group on different aspects of our work and external organisations, such as job centre plus often join the group to discuss areas of their operations.

The group acts an a reference panel, provides independent view and feedback on local substance misuse issues.

Service Provider Expert Group

All of KDAAT service providers participate in this group. It consults on the development of services, discusses new professional development, service delivery.

The group meets quarterly months in Maidstone.
